Draw a Track in Trip Planner

How to Draw a Track in Trip Planner

Sometimes the best way to find your way is to draw a track before you go. Then upload those helpful tracks into your mobile device or handheld GPS. Use Trip Planner, our web-based map editing tool, to plan out your routes. To get started, log into TrimbleOutdoors.com. Then in the navigation bar, select Maps > Trip Planner. You can draw tracks in three modes:

FREE HAND MODE

This track tool lets you draw tracks with great precision.

• Select Tools icon.

• Choose the Pencil icon. Your cursor turns into a crosshair.

• Select a spot on the map to start the track. A box pops up where you can edit the track name and description.

• Select OK. Click and hold the mouse button on the Pencil icon. Draw your track.

• Hit the Save button under the Trip Details tab.

 POINT-AND-CLICK MODE

This tool draws tracks by connecting points. Great for quick track drawing where precision isn’t super important.

• Select Tools icon.

• Choose the Draw Track in Point-and-Click mode. Your cursor turns into a crosshair.

• Select a spot on the map to start the track. A box pops up where you can edit the track name and description.

• Select OK. Click on the map to draw each segment of the track. Repeat this process until you are done.

• Hit the Save button under the Trip Details tab.

FOLLOW STREETS MODE

This tool follows existing streets to draw tracks. This is good for finding trailheads and can help navigating a spider-web of forest roads. Caution: This mode does not follow trails, and does not take in consideration any seasonal road closures.

• Select Tools icon.

• Choose the Follow Streets mode. Your cursor turns into a crosshair.

• Select a spot on the map to start the track. A box pops up where you can edit the track name and description.

• Select OK. Next, click a second point on the map. This tool will draw a track between the two points using known streets. Repeat this process as needed.

• Hit the Save button under the Trip Details tab.
